What Happens when a Believer Marries and Unbeliever?

What happens when a believer marries an unbeliever?  I think it is an important question to ask yourself if you consider yourself a believer and you want to please God.  If a believer marries an unbeliever one of two things will happen: 1. The believer will be influential in the conversion of the unbeliever and they will live happily ever after.  2. The believer will not be successful in the conversion of the unbeliever and the unbeliever will leave.

You might say, "What about the third option?  You forgot the third!  The believer doesn't convert the unbeliever but they still remain married for the rest of their lives."  Nah.  That's not going to happen.  I will tell you why.  The believer is very boring and repulsive to an unbeliever who is not going to be saved.  Eventually the unbeliever who refuses to repent and believe in the gospel will grow so sickened by the presence of the believer that they will have to separate from them.  I would say this happens quite often (although I have no proof).

What about the title of the blog post?  Why would a believer ever marry an unbeliever in the first place?  Good question.  I believe this might happen because the believer isn't mature.  He marries someone that he/she thinks is so funny or beautiful or smart and "hey, they loves Jesus too!"  For some reason I think if the believer had really examined the life of the unbeliever and compared it to Scripture, he/she wouldn't have married them in the first place.  He/she would have stayed single for a while longer.

The Scripture says however, "God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose".  This means that even a bad thing like divorce will work out for the good in the life of the believer.  The unbeliever...not so much. It is a fearful thing what happens to them.   But the things that happen to a believer happen because of the fact that God has called him for a greater purpose than what he has revealed right now. That is a wonderful thing!  God is infinitely good and he does only good things to those whom he chooses and calls.  Praise Him!
